(short description):
Growth dislocations are generated by intentionally introduced foreign-particles inclusions and by mechanical damaging (scratching) of growth faces of crystals growing from solution (K alum) and supercooled melts (organics). The development of surface step patterns induced by these impacts is observed and video-recorded by special optical microscopy. The generation of dislocations by the inclusions and by the growth-face damaging and their propagation during subsequent growth is studied by X-ray topography.
