(short description):
Zonal picroilmenites from Massadou kimberlite field (Guinea republic) and Dachnaya pipe (Yakutia) have been studied using electron scanning microscope (JEOL 6380 LA) and microprobe (JEOL JXA-8100). The content of TiO2, Cr2O3, MnO, MgO are increased and the content of Al2O3, FeO are decreased almost in twice in the rim zone. The zonal types of ferromagnetic picroilmenites from African and Yakutian kimberlites are similar: the nuclear parts of zonal grains correspond on chemical composition to the group of low-Ti and low-Mg ilmenites, the rim zone correspond to paramagnetic Ti-rich and Mg-rich ilmenites, which typical for all kimberlite rocks. The results of investigation are evidence of picroilmenite growth during the several stages of kimberlite formation.
