Abstract - Summary 
(short description):
Rare-earth scandate crystals are promising materials for several advanced applications. During the melt growth of some of these crystals interface instabilities due to absorption of the radiant heat in the crystal cause spiral growth. Composition, structure, and perfection of the crystals were investigated.
