Corundum-free associations (hibonite + spinel + phase FeAlO3 + dorrite-like phase) were found in plagioclase-clinopyroxene rock at Hatrurim Basin. The FeAlO3 phase is homogeneous and without solid decay. Its composition varies from Fe1.4Al0.6O3 to FeAlO3. It is first finding of the FeAlO3 in natural conditions. It is suggested that the phase from Hatrurim Basin seems to be a high-Al variety of luogufengite (orthorhombic polymorph ε-Fe2O3). According to the Al2O3-Fe2O3 system, the ε-(Fe,Al)2O3 polymorph is stable at T≥1318oC. Raman spectra of the Hatrurim phase indicate that it is neither α-(Fe,Al)2O3 (hematite) nor γ-(Fe,Al)2O3 (maghemite). |
