Results of large-scale monitoring of monuments of Necropolis of the State Museum of Urban Sculpture and the environment (air, soil, vegetation) are summarized . On the basis of the received data the description of the unique collection of ornamental stones of the Necropolis is made; the discussion about the deposit which were most likely used as the source of the stone materials is presented; the processes of monuments destruction under the influence of physical, chemical and biogenic factors are description. Special attention is paid to the monitoring methodology and the structure of the database for storing the received information. Many years of experience in the protection of stone work monuments of the Necropolis from biodestruction are covered.
