In the literature one finds several examples of minerals which for some reason became more or less advanced materials of technological, economic or scientific importance. The reason why they got their promotion and part of their scientific history will be summed up in this contribution. Examples to be dealt with will comprise the boracites, mayenite, moissanite, bentonite and the zorite Ц ETS-N (N = 4, 10) family.
Part of the contribution will be devoted to microporous structures having a cationic framework. Unlike the usual zeolite-type structures with anionic frameworks the structures in question allow for anionic exchange reactions, at least in principle.
