(short description):
Gypsum was identified and quantified by XRD, SEM, and acetone method and by optical microscope. It was found in 13 out of 22 samples that gypsum ranged from 0.5 to 72.6 % on the whole soil basis. Gypsum content incresed with depth in most soil profiles. Gypsum crystals are lenticular, elongated, dimond, tubular, irregular crystal and as twins stacked edge-to-edge at right angles. An overgrowth of gypsum was also observed. Illite or smectite was found to coat gypsum crystals. This would assert the activity of secondary minerals formation.
