Abstract - Summary (short description): | |
Chemical and structural similarity of S6+ and Se6+ ions should results in significant amounts of mixed sulfate-selenate phases (uranyl sulfates are one of the most common secondary minerals of U6+), however there were no detectable amounts of Se observed in natural uranyl sulfates. Aqueous uranyl- and neptunyl-containing systems with variable content of sulfate and selenate ions with addition of mono- and divalent cations (K, Cs, Mg) had been investigated. As the result of current studies an absence of a continuous solid solution was found, along with the absence of isotypic sulfates and selenates, which demonstrated that there are crystal-chemical restrictions on the incorporation of Se into the sulfate-containing uranyl compounds |
