About conference

For more than half a century, the meetings of the European High Pressure Research Group (EHPRG) have been bringing together hundreds of researchers that work on high-pressure science and technology. These annual conferences have proved to be outstanding occasions to exchange and discuss ideas and disseminate the latest results in research areas related to the application of high pressures. The 58th EHPRG Meeting in 2020 will be hosted by the University of La Laguna (ULL) at the Canary Island of Tenerife. Founded in 1792, the ULL is the oldest university in the Canary Islands. The main campuses are located in San Cristóbal de La Laguna, a city that in 1997 was declared a UNESCO World Heritage site. The university houses more than 21.000 undergraduate and postgraduate students, and 13 institutes and research centers, among them the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias (IAC) with some of the most important telescopes in the Northern Hemisphere. The conference sessions will be held at the Hotel Botánico, located in the touristic city of Puerto de la Cruz, in the astonishing Orotava Valley. Alexander von Humboldt, the famous German naturalist, who visited the island in 1799, wrote in a letter to his brother about the Valley: “I am leaving almost with tears in my eyes; I would have liked to settle here and I have hardly left Europe”. The volcanic island of Tenerife, in a strategical position midway from Europe, America, and Africa, has a pleasant climate and offers many different and impressive landscapes and activities. From mountain to seashores, such as the Teide National Park (another UNESCO World Heritage site and the highest peak in Spain), the historic cities of San Cristóbal de La Laguna and La Orotava, and some of the finest beaches and more bio-diverse waters in the world. Add to this a varied offer in gastronomy, wines, etc. to suit the tastes of every visitor.
