Russian
Mineralogical Society (RMS) launches
Award Calls for Outstanding Scientific Publications and Textbooks on mineralogy,
petrology, mineralogical crystallography, economical geology and
geochemistry.
1. GENERAL INFORMATION AND SCOPE
In 2007 RMS launches
two Calls: 1) Outstanding Young
Researcher Award
for Russian researchers (nomination YR2007) and non-Russian researchers
(nomination YW2007); 2) Monographs and Textbooks
Award for
Russian authors (nomination MR2007) and for non-Russian authors
(nomination MW2007).
Any authors of
scientific publications can submit proposals for the corresponding nomination independently
of scientific degree and position in educational/research or other
institution. Citizens of the Russian Federation submit proposals for the nominations
YR2007 and MR2007, foreign citizens submit proposals for the nominations YW2007
and MW2007. Scientific publications and textbooks subjected in proposals
must be written in English or Russian.
2. SUBMISSION OF PROPOSALS
Only submissions
through the RMS Internet-based on-line submission system are accepted (http://www.minsoc.ru). Proposals sent by
post, e-mail, telex or facsimile will be rejected without notice.
Submission of a proposal consists of two steps: 1) In order to prepare and submit a
proposal the applicant should access the RMS Submission System through
Internet site (http://www.minsoc.ru;
link: «Registration»). When accessing the submission system for the first
time the applicant will be
asked to enter his/her e-mail address and other
personal and address data, including valid postal
address and phone number. In return s/he will receive
by e-mail the user login and the password.
2) By using the password the applicant is
able to execute the proposal submission through the Submission System (link: «RMS
Award Call 2007»). Correctly submitted proposals will be
accepted by the Award Commission representative after verification.
Accepted proposal cannot be replaced or edited by the applicant. The
applicant will be informed about the acceptance of the proposal through
his/her email address. Deadlines. It
is imperative that all proposals are submitted before 15.09.2007. If
additional materials must be submitted by the applicant (e.g. an exemplar
of the monograph/textbook etc.), they must reach the Russian Mineralogical
Society Presidium before 15.09.2007. The address of the RMS Presidium

3. ELIGIBILITY AND PREPARATION OF PROPOSALS FOR DIFFERENT CALLS
3.1. Outstanding Young Researcher
Award. The
subject of a proposal should
be an original scientific article published in
any reviewed scientific journal from 2005 to 2007.
The applicant should be the first author of the article.
The age of the applicant should not exceed 35 full years in
2007. The applicant can submit only one proposal. The proposal is
organized in four fields, each to be filled in: (1) year of birth of the
applicant, (2) scanned passport pages with photo and principal information
(full
names, nationality and date of birth) as a JPEG image file,
(3) the full bibliographic data of article subjected in
proposal, and (4) the fulltext electronic version
of the article in PDF file format or as a
ZIP/RAR archive of scanned article pages. Electronic versions
of articles will not be published on the RMS Internet site
and will be deleted after the evaluation procedure. 3.2.
Monographs and Textbooks
Award. The subject of a proposal should
be a scientific monograph or a university textbook
printed from 2005 to 2007. One exemplar of
the book must be donated by the applicant to the Library
of the Russian Mineralogical Society before the proposal submission deadline. The proposal
is organized in three fields, each to be filled in: (1) type of book
(select between scientific monograph and university textbook), (2) full
bibliographic data
of the book, and (3) the date, the book
was sent to the RMS Library at.
4. EVALUATION OF PROPOSALS
The criteria governing the evaluation
of proposals are given in the Evaluation
form for the RMS Award Call 2007
(Appendix 1). Evaluation of proposals is organized by
the RMS Award Commission consisting of RMS Presidium members.
The resolutions of the Award Commission must be approved
by the RMS Presidium before inuring. The Award
Commission is responsible for distribution of the Award
Call announcements, control over the on-line Submission System, distribution of
proposals between peer-reviewers, collection of the evaluation results and determination
of Award winners. For each proposal, evaluators are
selected and appointed by the Commission from its independent experts'
database, with a view to achieve maximum competence for the evaluation.
Every proposal will be evaluated by three evaluators. Best proposals will
be defined according to number of given points (see Appendix 1). The
evaluation procedure is strongly confidential. The evaluators and members
of the Award Commission cannot distribute this information. RMS does not
inform applicants about the details of the evaluation
process.
The Award Commission will be
created during May/June, 2007. The Award Commission
delivers the proposals to the evaluators before 15.09.2007. The
evaluation of applications and determination of winners will be completed
before 20.09.2007.
5. AWARDING PROCEDURE
Three best proposals in
every nomination will be awarded with the RMS Diploma. Depending on sponsoring
the financial support for best applications can be constituted. For
nominations YR2007 and YW2007 the applicant will be awarded. For nominations
MR2007 and MW2007 the group of authors will be awarded. The awarding
procedure will take place on the plenary session of the RMS Annual
Session 2007 (Russia, Moscow, Vernadsky State Geological Museum,
8-10.10.2007) and on the plenary session of the 2nd International conference
«Crystallogenesis and mineralogy» (Russia, Saint Petersburg
State University, 1-5.10.2007). Awarded applicants are invited to the
corresponding conference to make plenary presentations and publish the
extended abstract in the proceedings of the RMS Annual Session 2007.
Awarded books will be exhibited in the RMS Library during October and
November, 2007. The list of awarded and other applicants and proposals
will be published on the RMS website (www.minsoc.ru). The list of awarded applicants will also
be published in the RMS annual report 2007 in the
scientific journal «Zapiski RMO» (Proceedings of the
Russian Mineralogical Society).

enquires concerning the functionality of the RMS on-line Submission System
must be referred to admin minsoc.ru.
